Although the weather isn’t saying so, summer is finally here! Which means we’ve got another quarterly newsletter that we are thrilled to share with you. Take a look at what’s brought us together this season and what we're looking forward to in the months to come:

The Big Bike Weekend 2024

Our annual celebration of cycling in Oban is back! Between the 16-18th August (the first weekend back after the school holidays), we have a jam-packed few days of riding for all ages and abilities. See the event poster above for the full schedule and press the button below to see how you can get involved!

If you’re interested in volunteering over the weekend, get in touch with Hannah at hannah@adventureoban.org.

Active Travel Coordinator Vacancy

We have an exciting new project starting later on this year and are looking for a new member of the team to help lead it!
Our project, ‘Active Routes to Schools’, will aim to promote active travel among school age young people in Oban. This role will involve working closely with schools, parents, local authorities, and community groups to develop and implement strategies that encourage children and teenagers to travel to school by foot, bike, or other non-motorised means.

Rainforest Folk Poetry and Film

Over the summer we ran a project focused on deepening our connection with the rainforest, thanks to facilitator Mika and filmmaker Beth.
Over 100 community members crafted poems during woodland poetry workshops. The video below brings together these words, celebrating peoples connection and relationship to our woods, and reflecting on what it means for us to be Rainforest Folk.

Finding fun in bogs with OWL Club!

Oban Wildlife Club spent a morning out at Dalvuie Farm in Benderloch, hunting for dragons in sparkling bog pools and amongst the fluffy clouds of cotton grass. After some disappointing weather putting a stop to June’s meeting with moths, it was great to get out together in search of some wild critters!
Keep an eye out on our Facebook and Instagram for future club dates.

Miles’ Adventures with Dunbeg Primary

Here are just a couple of images we’ve been sent of Miles out and about with the pupils of Dunbeg Primary! On the left, he’s pictured with Faraid, climbing curved ridge on Buachaille Etive Mòr. And on the right, Miles went for a swimming lesson followed by a horse riding trek from Achnalarig Stables with Jamie and Georgia!
We’ve loved hearing all the fun adventures Miles has been on over the past few months. We’ll be posting some more photos soon on our socials, so make sure you’re following to see them!
Would you like your school to receive Miles next? Get in touch below!

Sessions with Wild Bathing

We have been working with Jo at Wild Bathing to deliver some sessions in, on and about the water for young people in Oban.
Connecting with nature and the sea is an amazing way of supporting your mental health. Young people from Oban High School school and North Argyll Young Carers learned how to enter and be in the water safely, experienced breathwork and had fun on paddleboards, followed by some reflection by the fire with smores!

Scottish Trail Fund Award

Last month, we found out that North Argyll Trail Association (NATA) were successful in our application to the first round of grants from the Scottish Trail Fund!
Their generous contribution will help us purchase much-needed tools and give two of our dedicated team members the opportunity to attend a DIRTT training course!
This training will educate our team on becoming even better trail builders, ensuring our trails are top-notch for all riders. We couldn't be more grateful for this chance to grow and improve our beloved biking community.
We run monthly dig days and would love to have you join us! Get in touch with Hannah at hannah@adventureoban.org for more info.

We hope that you enjoy the rest of your summer and have lots of time outside in store!
Thank you for being a part of our journey so far.
See you outside!
